Summer is long, and it rains, and there are afternoons in the middle of it with nothing planned. Unrolling a six foot coloring sheet on the floor buys a couple of quiet hours from a group of children. The sheet is not fussy about where it goes: floor, table, patio or a wall, whichever surface happens to be free at the time.

Ice Cream Party Table

An ice cream party makes a mess in a way other parties do not, since everything on the table is melting from the moment it comes out.
