The dots in the box are designed for painted drywall and peel away cleanly if the decorations come down within a few days. Leave any adhesive up for a month in a warm room and it grips harder than it was meant to. On fresh paint, wallpaper or textured plaster, skip the dots and hang from removable hooks or fishing line.
Because banners and garlands ship pre-strung, dressing a doorway or a mantel takes about ten minutes and one pair of hands. Budget nearer an hour for a full backdrop with a balloon garland, and recruit a second person to hold the arch while you fix it.
A covered porch on a dry day is fine for fabric backdrops and foil bunting. Paper and card stock are not: one rain shower or one windy afternoon and the printing goes soft. If an item is built for outdoor use, its listing says so.
That is exactly why they ship flat. Felt banners, fabric backdrops and card-stock letters fold back into the same box and come out of the attic next season in good order. Latex balloons and crepe streamers cannot be saved — those are single-use by nature.
Treat them as decorations, never as toys. Ribbon, balloons and small props are choking and strangulation risks for anyone under eight. Hang them beyond reach, and put the trimmings straight in the bin instead of leaving them on the floor.
