Most handheld flags come on a pole barely longer than a pencil. These use a full twelve inches of wood behind a 4 by 6 inch polyester flag, which a child can hold in a parade without a fist covering half of it, and which pushes deep enough into soil to stand up in a flower bed. Twelve come in the pack, each already attached.

Pole length is the detail that separates these from the flags handed out along a parade route. Twelve inches gives an adult a grip that does not feel cramped and gives a flag pressed into a planter enough depth to stay upright when the wind picks up. We fix each flag to its pole before it leaves us, so there is nothing to assemble on the morning.

Polyester In The Weather

Polyester holds color where thin printed cotton bleeds. These are tear-resistant and waterproof, which means an overnight shower does not end the display and the reds do not run into the white stripes. Left out along a driveway for a long weekend, they still look right on the last day. The fabric dries quickly and goes back in the box for the next occasion.

Along The Front Walk

A dozen flags spaced down the edge of a front walk or pressed into the pots on a porch is the whole decoration for a lot of houses.
