November is the gap in most yards, after the pumpkins have gone soft and before the lights go up. A 12 by 18 inch flag fills it without storing anything large. The print has a cartoon turkey with plaid tail feathers, maple leaves, red berries and a wooden sign reading Grateful Thankful Blessed, under a HAPPY THANKSGIVING headline across the top.

Twelve by Eighteen Inches

That is the standard garden flag size, which is worth knowing before buying a pole. It is big enough to read from a car in the driveway and small enough to sit in a flower bed, beside a mailbox or at the turn of a front walk without taking the whole bed over. Two of them along a path also work, spaced a few feet apart.

Harvest Colors, Not Halloween

The palette moves on from October. Orange, brown, yellow and the warm tones of a harvest table replace the black and purple that came down at the start of the month, and the turkey makes the switch obvious to anybody walking past. For houses that decorate for both holidays, this is the piece that marks the handover between them.

Through Wind and Rain

A flag put out in early November has to last until the end of the month, and November weather does not cooperate. The polyester is woven to take wind, rain and sun through that stretch, and the artwork stays bright rather than bleaching out in the last week before the meal. Nothing needs bringing indoors when the forecast turns.

Greeting Along the Walkway

Guests arriving for dinner come up the same path, usually carrying a dish and looking at their feet. A flag at the turn of the walk is at eye level for that, and the vivid print on both faces means the turkey and the headline face them on the way in and again on the way out. Neighbors passing on the sidewalk get the same view.
