Nine Swirls Of Harvest Cutouts
Each swirl ends in a cutout and the nine are not repeats: pumpkins, maple leaves, acorns, grapes, corn, a slice of pie and a turkey all appear. Hung at mixed heights over a dining table they give the ceiling something to look at during a long meal. Air from a vent or a passing tray is enough to set them turning.
Lettering Over The Mantel
The banner spells out GIVE THANKS with a turkey and pumpkin worked into the letters, which is enough of a focal point that the room does not need another sign. It hangs along a mantel, over a window, across a bookshelf or on the front of a buffet. Guests arriving see the wording first, before the food is even carried out.
Friendsgiving In A Rental
A Friendsgiving in a small apartment usually means no storage and no nail holes. The swirls hang from a ceiling hook or a strip of tape, the banner needs two points of support, and both come down in a few minutes at the end of the night. For a potluck where the host supplies the space and little else, that is the right amount of work.
Kept For Next Year
The banner and swirls are printed on stock that holds its color rather than going pale after one season, and the foil does not tear at the hanging holes when it is taken down carefully. Laid flat in a folder or a shallow box they come out next year without creases. Classrooms and offices that put up the same display each November get several seasons out of one box.
