Thirty-Two Feet Of Rope
Nearly thirty-three feet is more than most rooms need, which is the point: the run can be doubled back, looped along a banister, or draped in two swags across a shop window with slack to spare. Cutting it is not necessary, since the excess rope at each end gives something to tie with. For a smaller space, gather the strand into folds rather than shortening it.
Forty Clovers, Two Greens
Forty signs at roughly four inches each spread out along the rope rather than crowding together, so the shape of each clover stays visible. Alternating a bright green with a lighter one gives the strand some depth under indoor light, where a single shade tends to flatten out. Against a white wall or a dark doorway the contrast is what makes the garland read from across the room.
Doorways, Bars And Bedrooms
The same strand covers a range of rooms. It hangs across a front door for the neighbors, above a bar or a shop counter for a March promotion, along a mantel at home, or around a bedroom window for a child who wants the holiday in their own room. Hung behind a table it also serves as the backdrop for photographs, which is where most of these end up on the day itself.
Folds Away Until March
One holiday a year is a short working life, so the garland is made to fold flat and come back. The signs do not crease permanently when the strand is coiled, and the material stays wrinkle free between seasons in a bag or a box. Wind it around a piece of cardboard before storing and next March the job is untangling nothing and hanging it in five minutes.
