Trick or treaters pick the houses that look like they are taking part. A WELCOME flag at the end of the path answers that question before anyone knocks, and this one carries a full scene: a glowing jack-o-lantern, a cauldron on the boil, a fiery moon and headstones behind. It fits a standard stand through the sleeve at the top, though the pole itself is not included.

Graveyard Under a Full Moon

Most of the panel is given over to artwork rather than text. The pumpkin throws light up from the bottom, the cauldron sits mid frame with steam coming off it, and the graveyard runs along the base under an orange moon. At arm's length the detail holds up, which is what makes it work beside a front step where people stand waiting.

High Definition on Two Faces

Detailed artwork is where weak printing shows, since a soft edge turns a cauldron into a grey blob. The printing here is high definition on both faces, so the scene reads the same from the street and from the porch. On a picture that counts for more than on block lettering, where a reversed image would still be obvious at a glance.

Built for Wind and Rain

Double stitching runs through the panel seams and the sleeve is cut from heavier material, which is what holds a flag together through a wet week in late October. Rain soaks the spun polyester without the colors running, and it dries out between storms. A machine wash clears off the grit thrown up by passing cars before the flag goes back in the box.

Greeting at the Party Door

Hosts use it indoors as well, propped by the entrance where guests come in or stood in a planter beside the door. The WELCOME wording does the work a sign would, and the scene gives a photograph taken on the step something behind it. Set up next to a wreath or a string of lights it reads as the start of the display.
