Lace Web, Scalloped Edge
The web is formed by the lace itself rather than printed onto fabric, so light and the color of the table show through the openings. Scalloped edges finish both long sides and resist fraying, which is the usual failure point on open work textiles. The result is closer to formal table linen than to a novelty decoration, with the pattern doing the work.
Over a Pale Tabletop
Open lace depends on what sits beneath it. On a light wood or white table the web stands out in full detail, and over a colored cloth it reads as a darker layer. At 18 inches wide it covers more of a surface than a narrow strip, which suits a dinner table laid for a seated meal, a buffet counter or a fireplace mantel.
Spooky Dinner Service
A seated Halloween dinner, a costume party or a feast before the trick-or-treating round all need a table that looks considered. The lace carries that without blocking the center of the surface, so candles, dark glassware and a centerpiece sit on top of the web. It also dresses an office table or a classroom party counter where heavy props are out of place.
Gentle Cycle or Hand Wash
Lace of this weight goes through a gentle machine cycle, or into cold water with mild soap for anything delicate about the evening's spills, and the black does not run. Because it packs down to almost nothing, the runner also travels: it has been used as filler in a Halloween gift basket and as the wrapping layer over a hamper.
