The Black Field
Color needs something to sit against. Against black, the orange and red flowers hold their edges at dusk and from the far side of a front lawn, and the lettering stays legible when everything around it has gone brown. Porch lights read it after dark better than a pale panel would. The effect is closer to a painted sign than to a piece of printed fabric.
A Rough Burlap Face
The cloth is polyester with a slightly rough, burlap-like face, so it hangs with some body instead of clinging to the pole. That surface takes weather without much fuss: rain runs off and dries, wind does not fray it quickly, and the dye is fade-resistant through weeks of direct sun. By the end of the season the colors are close to where they started.
Beside The Front Path
A flag this size belongs where people walk past it slowly. Set into a bed beside the front path, it reads at eye level on the way to the door.
