Hidden Zipper Closure
The zipper runs along one side in a thread color chosen to match the print, so it reads as a seam rather than hardware. Work the insert in corner first, then zip from one end to the other and give the cover a shake to settle the filling. The same closure makes it easy to pull the cover back off in January and put the plain one on again.
Cold Wash Gentle Cycle
Polyester takes a wash better than most decorative fabric, and these are meant to go through one. Run them cold, separately, on a gentle cycle, and skip the bleach. Because the covers come off the inserts, nothing bulky goes into the machine and nothing stays damp for days. That matters on a pillow that spends four weeks near a cookie tray and a bowl of cranberry sauce.
Rooms Beyond The Sofa
A pair goes further when it is split up. One can sit on a reading chair in the bedroom while the other lands on an office desk chair or a bench by the door. The polyester face is soft enough to lean on and the print faces outward from any angle, so there is no wrong way to set them on a bed made up for guests.
Flat Storage In January
Covers store the way sheets do. Fold the two flat, slide them into the bin with the rest of the holiday textiles, and the inserts stay in service the other eleven months of the year. Nothing is compressed out of shape in a box, and the polyester does not hold a crease the way a stiffer print does, so next December they come out ready to use.
