Farmhouse Christmas decorating is mostly plaid, pine and warm red, and this flag puts a joke in the middle of it. The chickens wear Santa hats and scarves while they decorate a tree, surrounded by buffalo plaid bows, golden bells, gift boxes and pine garlands under Merry Christmas lettering. It measures 12 by 18 inches, which is the usual garden flag size.

Chickens in Santa Hats

Nothing else on the street will have this print. The birds stand around a decorated tree in hats and scarves, with red plaid bows, bells and wrapped boxes filling the space behind them in rustic farm coloring. It gives a porch something to laugh at rather than another silhouette of a reindeer, and the lettering still says Merry Christmas plainly enough to read from a passing car.

Water Off the Polyester

December hands a flag rain, snow and hard low sunlight in the same week. The polyester repels water and resists fading, so the plaid stays red and the bells stay gold through the stretch between the first Sunday of Advent and the new year. When mud from the bed behind it splashes up the panel goes in the machine, then back on the pole.

Full Artwork Both Faces

Both faces carry the pattern and the text, so neither the street nor the house gets the back of the flag. On a windy afternoon the panel turns constantly and there is no moment where a neighbor sees a pale blank rectangle. For a flag standing beside a path used in both directions, that doubles how often anybody actually looks at the chickens.

Sleeve and Stitched Hems

The hanging edge has a reinforced top sleeve and the outer edges are double stitched, which is exactly where a thin flag lets go after a fortnight of wind. The sleeve slides onto the standard poles and stands most yards already keep in the shed; no stand is packed in the box. Setup is one movement with no hooks, clips or tools involved.
